Round 17 of the A League sees Melbourne City heading across the ditch to face a Wellington Phoenix side that will be looking to bounce back after a loss last time out to bottom placed Western Sydney. City will want to get revenge after a 5-1 thrashing last time they played Wellington. Both teams will look to get back to winning ways this week by collecting a valuable three points.
Wellington will be looking to bounce back from a defeat to the Wanderers last week end in a match that Ernie Merrick said his side deserved at least a point. The Phoenix ended the match with 60% possession, they also had 23 crosses to 13 and 430 passes to 288 but somehow still couldnt find a way to goal. City are coming off a 3-0 defeat to rivals Melb Victory. The match also saw two of City's newest recruits in Safuwan Baharudin and striker Josh Kennedy the latter making his debut from the bench.
Melbourne City could potentially start the same XI from the week end although Josh Kennedy could possibly start after his substitute appearance last time out and Massimo Murdocca could also feature from the start but is more likely to come off the bench after returning from injury last week end. Ernie Merrick could make no changes to his side to give them the chance to bounce back from last weeks loss with Alex Rodriguez and Kenny Cunningham in line to start having both started from the bench last time out.
With both sides looking to bounce back quickly after losses at the week end thsi match looks evenly poised. The Phoenix being at home will surely start favourites and with Nathan Burns in good goal scoring form with 10 goals so far this season there will be goals in this match. Melbourne City will have a similar midset heading into this one coming off a derby loss they will want to make amends.Their front line is as potent as any with Damien Duff,David Williams and Robbie Koren and add to that striker Josh Kennedy City will look to have their shooting boots on and create plenty of chances. Expect fast flowing football and goals in this one with Wellington just edging it. Phoenix 3 - City 2
