Melbourne City defender Connor Chapman will miss up to three months of the A-League season after scans confirmed a major knee injury.

Chapman, 21, tore his medial collateral ligament in the first half of City's 4-0 demolition of Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

The A-League's most outstanding young centre-back will also miss Australia's campaign to qualify for the Olympics at next month's under-23 Asian Championship in Qatar.
