Melbourne City striker Corey Gameiro is set to miss the entire new A-League season after rupturing an ACL during training.
Gameiro returned from Townsville to Melbourne to undergo scans on Monday.
City say he will undergo surgery next week on his right knee and start rehabilitation immediately.
In a statement, the club wished Gameiro the best in his recovery.
The 2016/17 A-League season kicks off on Friday October 7 when Brisbane host Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium.
The finals series will begin on the weekend of April 21-23 and the grand final is scheduled for Sunday May 7 2017.
