It's not just Australia going wild for Tim Cahill's A-League wonder goal.

The Socceroo great's exceptional strike on debut for Melbourne City in their 4-1 derby triump has earned praise everywhere from the United States to England, France, Portugal, Sweden, Spain and Turkey.

The former Everton, Millwall and New York Red Bulls star is already known internationally for his catalogue of brilliant goals across the English Premier League, Major League Soccer and three World Cups with the Socceroos.

But UK newspaper The Sun judged his 35 metre "absolute stunner" to be right up there with his best, complete with his trademark box-the-corner-flag celebration.

America's NBC Sport declared that the 36-year-old has "still got it" while Swedish publication Fotbollskanalen talked up his glowing return to Australian football after two decades abroad.

Fox Sports America were so taken they referenced the strike in cliches, exclaiming: "Holy kangaroo what a goal it was".

Spanish outlet Vice Sports ventured that viewers couldn't be blamed for wondering if "fighting Tim" was a relative of Chelsea and England defender Gary Cahill.

Eurosport UK lamented they had more or less forgotten about Cahill's existence during his two-year stint in the Chinese Super League, but were pleased he had come "rampaging back into our collective consciousness".

Locally the goal has already been written into A-League folklore as one the competition's standout goals in its 12-season history.

It sent Twitter users into a frenzy and earned praise from Australian tennis great Lleyton Hewitt and former cricketers Brett Lee and Adam Gilchrist.
